Our commitment to handling your data responsibly · Independent Examiners Ltd

Back to homepage

We are uncomfortable with the way personal data is misused — particularly profiling by large corporations. If we hold your data, we will treat it how we would want our own data treated: we will not sell it, we will not ask for more than we need, and we will respect your privacy in everything we do.

Our Legal Framework

Independent Examiners Ltd operates in full compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the UK GDPR. In the course of providing services to clients, we may process personal data on your behalf. Where we do, both parties agree to comply with applicable data protection laws.

Definitions

Controller — the entity that determines the purposes and means of processing personal data. In most cases, this is Independent Examiners Ltd.

Processor — an entity that processes personal data on behalf of a controller.

Customer Data — any personal data belonging to your organisation that we process in the course of delivering our services.

Data Subject — the identifiable individual to whom the personal data relates.

How We Process Your Data

We process customer data solely for the purposes of delivering our agreed services — including preparing accounts, carrying out independent examination, and meeting our professional obligations. We rely on the following lawful bases under UK GDPR:

Your Rights as a Data Subject

We will notify you promptly if we receive any request from a regulatory authority or individual relating to your data. We will assist you in responding to subject access requests and other data subject rights within the timescales required by law.

To make a data subject request, please contact our data protection lead, Fi Ellis, at support@iel.org.uk.

Security

We maintain appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against accidental loss, unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure. Access to personal data is limited to staff with a legitimate business need. Our security measures are reviewed regularly.

In the event of a data breach, we will notify you and any applicable regulator without undue delay and in any case within 72 hours of becoming aware of the incident.

Sub-processors

We may engage third-party sub-processors (for example, cloud storage or IT support providers) to assist in delivering our services. We ensure all sub-processors are bound by data protection obligations no less protective than our own. You may request a list of our current sub-processors at any time by emailing support@iel.org.uk.

Retention and Deletion

We retain customer data for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, and in accordance with our legal obligations. On termination of our engagement, we will return or securely delete your data as agreed, except where retention is required by law.
